Link Guard

Stay safer on the web, one destination at a time

Link Guard is Hafnova's browser security extension designed to help users detect and block risky destinations directly from the browser.

Powered by Hafnova ThreatDB, it checks visited domains against continuously enriched threat intelligence and helps stop navigation to malicious or unwanted destinations before harm occurs.

Simple to use, lightweight, and completely free, Link Guard brings threat intelligence closer to the user, directly where browsing decisions happen.

Browser security

A browser guard connected to real threat intelligence

Browsing is one of the most common entry points for online threats. Phishing pages, malicious links, fake shops, scam websites, harmful redirects, tracking-heavy destinations, and malicious infrastructure can all appear in normal browsing flows.

Link Guard acts as a browser guard connected to ThreatDB, Hafnova’s threat intelligence platform. Instead of relying on static local lists alone, the extension checks destinations against a live intelligence source and applies protection based on the threat categories that matter to you.

This makes Link Guard a practical extension for:

What Link Guard does

Block what matters to you

Link Guard lets you choose which threat categories should trigger blocking. You can configure the tags exposed by your environment and decide what should be allowed or denied based on your own browsing, security, or policy requirements. This makes the extension suitable for a wide range of use cases, from personal security to more controlled browsing environments.

Check a domain before you trust it

From the toolbar popup, you can manually test a domain and immediately see whether it would be allowed or blocked. This gives users a simple way to validate a destination before proceeding.

Make informed exceptions

If you understand the risk and still want to continue, Link Guard can allow you to proceed. For higher-risk categories such as malware or security-related detections, the extension can require an additional confirmation step.

Allow temporarily when needed

In situations where a short exception is required, Link Guard can temporarily allow a specific host without permanently weakening your browsing policy.

Why it matters

Why it matters

The browser is still one of the most exposed environments

phishing protection failures
malicious websites
scam protection issues
fake shop detection challenges
malicious links
harmful download protection gaps
tracker blocker and privacy protection concerns
online threat protection blind spots

Link Guard addresses this reality by bringing threat classification directly into the browsing experience. Instead of discovering danger after the fact, users receive a clear decision at the point of navigation.

Powered by ThreatDB

Threat intelligence, directly inside the browser

At the core of Link Guard is ThreatDB, Hafnova’s intelligence platform for domains, malicious infrastructure, phishing activity, abuse patterns, and compromise-related signals.

When you visit a website, Link Guard consults ThreatDB to determine:

  • whether the hostname is known
  • which threat tags apply
  • whether your configured policy should allow or block it

This creates a direct connection between domain intelligence and the user’s everyday browsing. It is one more example of Hafnova’s broader approach: bringing threat intelligence as close as possible to real-world usage, through practical and accessible protective layers.

A transparent blocking experience

A transparent blocking experience

Clear decisions, not silent failures

When a page is blocked, Link Guard displays an interstitial blocked page explaining why navigation has been stopped.

This means users always understand:

  • that a page was blocked
  • which destination triggered the decision
  • why the extension intervened

The goal is not only to block, but to make browser protection more understandable and more trustworthy.

How it works

How it works

Simple, fast, and designed for real browsing

When a user visits a destination, the extension checks the hostname against Hafnova’s ThreatDB lookup service. Blocking depends on the selected threat tags and associated configuration. If the service is temporarily unavailable, the extension remains in fail-open mode, meaning browsing continues normally rather than cutting the user off because of a network issue.

This ensures a practical balance between:

real-time protection
browsing continuity
usability
operational resilience
Privacy and data

Privacy and data

Security classification with a clear purpose

To perform threat checks, the extension may send hostnames and related lookup data required for classification to Hafnova’s API. This processing is used for security classification and threat evaluation. Hafnova does not sell user data, and the extension operates within Hafnova’s security and privacy framework.

Users can also review the permissions requested during installation for greater transparency.

  • privacy protection
  • informed consent
  • transparent browser security behavior
  • a cleaner trust relationship with the user

Why Link Guard

Link Guard is more than a browser extension. It is a milestone in Hafnova’s product strategy: making security intelligence directly usable at the edge of user activity.

With Link Guard, Hafnova shows once again that threat intelligence does not have to remain buried inside backend systems or enterprise-only tooling. It can be made available in simple, practical formats that help users make safer decisions every day.

This extension is a first step — and a strong one.
